Outreach

Teachers-in-charge: Mrs C.Shaw, Mrs C. Anderson & Mr G. Hogan

The Outreach program at FHS has grown considerably over the last year. With 3 teachers and about 10 pupils actively involved we have been able to make a memorable difference to various charities in 2009.

Term 1 2009
We started off the year with a stationary collection that we donated to the Cosmo City Junior School. We visited the school and handed them 15 boxes full of stationary. We took some councillors with us to support and they really had a great time talking to the younger children and hi-fiving all of them as we left.

Our next goal was two-fold, namely underprivileged children and animals in distress. Our first venture was a Valentine’s Day Civvies collection where we managed to raise R6, 000.00 which we split and donated R3, 000.00 to both the Society for Animals in Distress and The Children of Fire Fund. A formal handover of the cheques were done at the school with representatives from each foundation.

With Easter around the corner, it only made sense for us to start collecting easter eggs for the disadvantaged children of JHB. An overwhelming collection of 11, 088 eggs were donated in little over 3 weeks and we personally handed these out to the following organizations:
- The Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital’s Pediatric Ward
- The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund
- CHOC
- The Ma’afrika Tikkun Children’s Fund
- The Nkosi Johnson Aids Foundation, and
- Cotlands

Term 2 & 3 2009
For the winter period we plan on collecting blankets and warm clothing. The pupils of FHS were fanastic in their donations and we were able to assist in two different ways: firstly, with our own groundstaff member whose house burnt down and he lost everything. The other being Guild House who are also in the process of rebuilding their premises due to a fire. We had more than enough to assist both requirements and this is due to the unselfish nature of the school's pupils.

Term 4 2009
The 4th term will see us collecting Christmas presents for the disadvantaged children around Gauteng. A range of toys will be collected for children aged 0 - 14.
Special Thanks

A big thank you must be extended to Charl and his staff at Pick 'n Pay at the Buzz Shopping Centre for their continued support of our charity drives.
