Description of Activity

At Fourways High we strive to reach new heights with every Major Production we produce.
Traditionally, every year we select a musical production which we bring to life on our stage with a full live band. Not only are the cast members pupils, but our band is made up of pupils and staff as well as our sound and lighting crew. Browse through all our past shows here on our website and our next production FAME for May 2012.
The Major Production is a huge highlight on the school’s calendar and we urge you not to miss the show.

Synopsis - Fame the Musical

Music By Stephen Margoshes
Lyrics By Jacques Levy
Book/Libretto by: David De Silva and José Fernandez
Licensing Agent: Music Theatre International (MTI)
Performed with permission from DALRO

Set during the last years of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street “Fame—The Musical” is bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of gruelling artistic and academic work.
With candour, humour and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today: issues of prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance.
The highs and lows are too much for some but the kids' determination to find greatness shines through.

Academic and homework policy 2012

There are various classrooms being made available (as has been done in previous years) as study venues for pupils in the Major Production before rehearsals. Cast members are strongly urged to make use of these venues to do homework and study, to keep up with school work, and not waste time running around the school. Some personal accountability in this regard is therefore required from all cast members.
Cycle exams will be written in a similar way as in term three last year – in a short exam week, rather than once a week. This will also help with academics as some of these cycles where on Monday mornings with rehearsals being on previous Sunday afternoons. All staff members acknowledge the hard work cast members put into our Major Productions and are available for extra assistance if required. Should there be a problem in this regard, please feel free to contact me and I will sort it out. I realise there are concerns but with appropriate management there is no excuse for pupils being unable participate in what they love and retain good academic results.
I would like to urge anyone considering withdrawal, not to do so. Being involved in the various Cultural Activities, and keeping up with academics not only makes for a school career pupils will look back on later in life with great memories, but it inadvertently teaches many interpersonal skills such as time management, coping under stress in a healthy manner, learning to lead, building self confidence and establishing integrity of character on the whole.
