Computer Olympiad

Teacher-in-Charge: Mrs P. Macmillan

The first round of the Standard Bank Computer Olympiad was held on 23 April 2009. This is a pen and paper test identifying those with IT knowledge and aptitude as well as problem solving ability.
All the grade 9 pupils were entered as this would help us to identify the pupils who have the aptitude for taking IT from grade 10. All the grade 10, 11 and 12 IT pupils also entered

Grade 11 and 12 pupils entered the second round of the Standard Bank Computer Olympiad in 22 May 2009. This round involves attempting to answer 5 problems using Delphi programming. The questions are difficult and the standard extremely high.

The following are the results for Fourways High School:
3rd Place: Jessica Davies
2nd Place: Lionel van Niekerk
1st Place: Johann van Rooyen

These three entries were entered into the national Olympiad. Unfortunately none of the pupils mentioned made it through to the third round, but Johann was mentioned as being one of the pupils out of 60 schools who was able to solve more than 2 out of the 5 problems. This is an excellent achievement.
Well done to everyone who entered.
